NAC's Helicopter Division is a Bell-appointed customer service centre based at Rand Airport. Helicopter Maintenance is capable of all servicing and repairs to Bell and Robinson aircraft.

NAC's superbly equipped Helicopter Maintenance division holds South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) certification as well as helicopter maintenance certifications from several other African countries, including Uganda and Ghana. Presently, NAC's Rotary Wing Maintenance Division manages in the region of 120 helicopters of all types at its service facility at Rand Airport. The company has embarked on an expansion programme whereby the helicopter division will extend its services elsewhere on the African continent. In addition, NAC has the only factory-approved Rolls Royce overhaul shop in Africa.

Technical staffing

Like many other sectors of the aviation industry in South Africa, NAC has suffered the loss of well-trained technical staff members to oil rich countries or poaching by other AMO's. In order to counteract the drain of expertise, NAC has embarked on a skills training programme that involves a full-time training instructor. The result is that NAC will be recognised as an SACAA training facility alongside South African Airways and Denel. The accredited training facility will also be recognised by the appropriate TETA, and is useful when qualifying for the government's BEE status. Several of the trainees will eventually be placed in the aviation industry as qualified technical personnel. Recruits will be trained to work on the USA products to the FAA standards that are overseen by Bell Helicopters. USA companies take a serious view of corporate governance, meaning the company representing recruits in South Africa has to comply with company ethics. Certain trainees will be offered permanent positions with NAC helicopter maintenance to boost trained staff requirements for the servicing of the considerable order book that the Helicopter Division has already written. Engine overhaul facility

Within another building at Rand Airport the Engine Overhaul division is to be found. This is one of the only certified helicopter turbine engine overhaul facilities to be found in South Africa. Engines overhauled include: Bell Jet Ranger, Long Ranger, 407, BO 105 for the SAPS, MD 500 and Bell 430. In addition, Rolls Royce warranty work is carried out at the engine overhaul facility, which includes a certified engine test cell.
