National Airways Corporation (NAC) was established in 1946, offering one of South Africa's first air charter services. Over the years the company has spread its wings, becoming the largest general aviation company in Africa and one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Offering a full range of aviation services and products to the fixed wing and helicopter markets, we specialize in aircraft sales, aircraft maintenance, avionics upgrade and installation, value added products, parts sales, charter, international operations and pilot training.
From its headquarters at Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, NAC operates a South African network of offices in Cape Town, Durban, Grand Central Airport, Wonderboom Airport and Rand Airport. NAC also has branches further afield in Botswana and Nigeria and internationally, Awesome Flight Logistics in Perth (Australia) and Specialised Aircraft Services in Wichita, USA. NAC Makana, our Cape Town Waterfront helicopter company, is a joint venture partnership between NAC and Makana Investments (Pty) Ltd.
In 1999 Imperial Holdings purchased a 62% share in NAC. Imperial Holdings is a mobility group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. National Airways Corporation (Pty) Ltd is the operating company which is a 100% subsidiary of National Airways and Finance Corporation Limited.
NAC is a Distributor for Hawker Beechcraft Corporation – manufacturers of Beechcraft and Hawker Products, an Independent Representative for Bell Helicopter, a Dealer for Robinson Helicopter, an Authorized Distributor for Piper Aircraft, a Diamond Aircraft Regional Distribution Centre, exclusive sales agents for Pacific Aerospace and distributor for Daher-Socata. Professional full time pilots crew our fleet of charter aircraft, from executive jets, twin engine turbo prop and piston aircraft. In addition NAC offers both single and twin engine helicopter services for charter, contract and specialized helicopter missions.
NAC’s International Operations division specializes in both short and long term contracts servicing aid agencies, the oil and gas market, freight handlers and regional airlines. Their expertise encompass off base operations which include flight operations and aircraft maintenance.
NAC offers the full range of maintenance services for both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Accreditation by 12 different Civil Aviation Authorities, including the South African CAA as well as American FAA, allows NAC Maintenance to provide service to customers in many different countries. NAC is an authorized Embraer, Beechcraft and Diamond Service Centre.
Our engine workshop allows us to offer the complete maintenance and overhaul service for Rolls-Royce Model 250 Engines at Rand Airport and a new nine year Rolls Royce Authorized Maintenance Centre agreement was signed in January 2010. This helicopter workshop is both Bell Helicopter and Robinson Helicopter approved and we are the only Rolls-Royce approved Model 250 Engine Series repair and overhaul facility Africa.
NAC Parts Divisions at Lanseria and Rand Airport offer a wide spectrum of products and services to the general aviation community. We hold extensive inventories of the products for which we are the direct distributors, agents or franchise holders. These extensive inventories are distributed from our warehouses and through our wholly owned procurement subsidiary located at the heart of the aircraft industry in Wichita, Kansas.
NAC’s 43 Air School is the largest pilot and technical training school in the Southern Hemisphere. Fully residential airline pilot training is carried out at our dedicated airfield in Port Alfred and Bhisho on the south east coast in South Africa. NAC also has a 43 Advanced Air School located at Lanseria where experienced pilots are able to carry out concurrent training and type conversions on our Embraer 120 and King Air 200 simulators. NAC’s Flight Schools at Grand Central and Rand Airports specialise in ab initio and advanced helicopter training.
