As part of NAC’s “Flight for Sight” project in partnership with the SA Guide Dogs Association for the Blind, NAC staff once again rose to the occasion during the 2010 Christmas charity campaign. Staff members managed to raise R3 333 which will enable NAC to pay for the training of another guide dog puppy. In December 2009, staff managed to raise R12 000 which helped to pay for the full guide dog training of Ashley and Frasier, who have now completed their training and Frasier has been placed with a guide dog owner in Cape Town.
Freedom and independence mean different things to different people, but to a visually impaired person it means the ability to go where they like, when they like; to be able to travel to work safely on a daily basis, go shopping unaided, deposit their salary at the bank, visit friends or go to church. It is not easy to comprehend the joy and freedom that a guide dog can bring into a visually impaired person’s life and NAC is very proud to be associated with the SA Guide Dogs Association for the Blind.
